Continuing its meteoric rise to fame, Linkee, the world’s first crowd-sourced family trivia game, hits the shelves of John Lewis stores this week – only eight months after launch. The game, which boasts questions created by members of the public, is available in 20 John Lewis stores and online from today, and will be carried nationally in all branches of John Lewis from the summer.
Destined to be the must-have new family game for Christmas 2013, Linkee’s explosion onto the toy and game scene is underpinned by a nationwide PR and marketing campaign encompassing celebrity and press seeding, blogger engagement and social media. Team Linkee will also be hitting the road again this summer to spread the Linkee word at a number of gift fairs across Britain.
Team Linkee’s Tristan Williams comments, “For Linkee to be selected by John Lewis is absolutely brilliant news for two reasons: 1. We really wanted to get Linkee into John Lewis, it feels like a great honour to be in there; 2. Our parents aren’t looking at us like we need to go out and get a proper job anymore. Which is nice.”
Scott Bartle, Gift Collections John Lewis, said, “We are always looking for innovative products to delight our customers and Linkee fitted the bill perfectly.”
The aim of the game is to solve a Linkee before your opponent. There are four questions on each card, the answers to which are linked together by a common theme, or ‘Linkee’. The first person or team to solve the questions and guess the Linkee wins.
Taking family gatherings, dinner parties and good old get-togethers by storm, Linkee (ages 14+, RRP £19.99) is designed to span generations and get people of all ages playing together. It’s the super-simple, shouty-outy, fast family quiz game which strips out all the things people dislike about trivia games: it’s bored/board-free, there’s no turn-taking and it’s a level playing field so everyone gets involved and nobody feels silly. Over a third of the questions are written by people who have actually played the game, ensuring questions are topical, relevant and fun. Linkee contributors are rewarded with ‘fame from their name in the game’ with their name and town printed on their question card.
With Linkee already stocked in a number of independent toy and game stores throughout the UK and online, it’s already proving phenomenally popular. Work has begun on the second edition, featuring 100% new and crowd-sourced question cards and the team is also developing a version for younger children – Dinkee Linkee – which stays true to the co-creation ethos by involving schools in the question creation.
